Bad Check

This classic 1979 Marathon Checker is a custom creation built solely for the TV program “Rides” in 2005. New York-New York enlisted the help of D&P Classics in Huntington Beach, California to design and build a hot rod Checker Cab for display inspired by mid-century taxi cabs in New York City. The car was shipped to D&P where the following modifications were made: Original 250 cu. inch 120hp Chevrolet engine was removed and a 540cu. inch Hemi Mopar engine tuned to 850hp was installed along with a 727 Dodge Torqueflite transmission. Custom art Morrison chassis, suicide doors, rack and pinion steering, 4-corner independent air bag suspension, tubular control arms, 4 x 4 box chassis, custom Ford 9” rear end, parallel 4-bar adjustable suspension and Hillborn fuel injection. Once these modifications were completed the car was send to Al & Ed’s Auto Sound for installation of a 32” flat screen monitor and a custom Clarion sound system boasting 6 ½ mids in front, 6 x 9s in the rear and 2-12” subs in the trunk. See this and other New York City inspired icons at New York-New York.
